Laura Sue Peter’s original art works are recognized and collected in every state in the United States and many countries abroad. In her signature textured paintings, Laura builds the 'wooden cradle canvas' from birch and aspen (many power tools required:) then applies a texture that she has been developing for quite a long time using files and chisels. Laura lives and works in Tennessee.

Genevieve’s lifelong art career began when she enrolled in her first art classes at the age of four. Shortly after receiving a BA in studio art from UC Santa Barbara, she launched her art career with her first sold-out show, quickly establishing herself as an emerging fine artist, and talented decorative painter. In 2000, James left the country for the first time and set out to explore Japan, Thailand, and Cambodia to try his hand at travel writing. Soon he realized that the photos he was taking were capturing a far-more nuanced and intriguing representation of his surroundings than his words were capable of. What he liked about the photos was their quietness, their space for imagination and association, and their willingness to leave questions unanswered. While his iconic imagery and super-saturated colors hint at a dreamworld, all the images spring from the physical world- capturing the essence of James's belief that we must look no further than reality to find impossible beauty. Our imaginations rise from our reality.

His work has been shown in numerous galleries and publications, including a feature story in Popular Photography.

Anna Conklin

While drawn toward art since childhood, Anna tried her hand in a few other areas before discovering the joy of an art career. After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in American History and Political Science, Anna spent time studying art in Florence, Italy. After returning from abroad, Anna worked in an educational start-up that soon grew to a national presence. Still, art called to her. So she switched back to art and in 2000, she received an MFA in textiles from California College of the Arts.

Kate Phillips is a Scottish artist who currently lives in The Bay Area. She studied printmaking at Glasgow School of Art and for the past seven years has worked in the encaustic medium. Her drawings and paintings are made using this ancient technique which is a layering of bees wax/resin and pigments fused together with a blowtorch. Kate traps found images, old paper and thread between these layers to create intriguing worlds, beckoning the viewer closer, to hear the stories they whisper. They smell nice too.

in her words:

When I paint, I travel to a little world where the light is like that of a late sunny afternoon just as summer is becoming autumn and the glaring sunshine becomes a warmer sleepy glow. It is an in between place where things are not quite as they seem. In this world I visit old houses and gardens collecting old paper and memories. The fragmented images and feelings from these journeys float up to the surface which I capture between layers of beeswax, trapping a fleeting moment, in a slightly haunted suspension. These collections of marks and images become souvenirs of journeys back there.

We opened the Guerilla Gallery with a wonderful reception last Friday evening. Michael, as Creative Director did a very good job choosing the works to include in the show and I am privledged to be the art director. The Show, called "Birds and Branches" includes works by Laurs Sue Peters, James Hall, Jenny Roland, Kate Phillips, Palette Wall Art, and Anna Conklin.

The space is small, intimate and unpretentious. Our plan is to have shows often so please keep in touch. Local artists that make art for all living spaces.

We are open every Thursday from 12-4pm, so stop on by and say Hi. 2625 Magnolia St. Oakland, CA. Feel free to call me, Obi at 510-914-8364. The Paintings, Photography and Wall art is all amazingly priced.

"Birds and Branches" show of Art

If you haven't heard yet, Nest is opening a little gallery inside of the Warehouse! Where, just last year, was the office of Nestgallery.com will now be the Guerilla Gallery at Nest Home Design. It seemed like the natural next step. Nestgallery.com is still alive but not totally evolved to what we have always believed it could be. We feel like we kinda missed our mark with the first launch of our idea to integrate interior design and art. That is to say, we found an excellent crop of artists, but many of the pieces that we offered were at price points a bit higher than we wanted. That is now changing!
We have a whole crop of emerging artists who are hungry to sell their work at prices that history will reveal to be astonishing. Most of our new work is between $50 and $250. We have no pretense of what the Gallery is: we know that it is in a warehouse in a tough part of town but we believe that can work to our customer's advantage. This place is a gem, a stash of talent, a bright light.

Rob Reiter at La Salle Rd, Oakland

Rob Reiter's amazing landscapes look great anywhere. We have a few featured in this location at different spots: one in the bedroom, two in the bathroom (one pictured) and two in the hallway.
Rob is the director of his own gallery in Berkeley called the Light Room and prints his own Giclees in a process similar to the one we use. We framed these images we are representing in simple white wood with a complimenting white mat. If you would like a close up of any of these images, I would be happy to send you one. These two images are among our favorates in the Artelier Collection. Alexandra's photographs documenting her journeys through Eastern Europe are so evocative and textural. The tones of the print itself are amazingly consistant due to our inhouse,Giclee printing process where we use high quality, matte canvas whose effect is dramatic depth of field.

Okay, so I painted this one. It came out well. The Artelier collection is made of what we call directed works as well. When the Design Panel finds an image they like they hire an artist (in this case me) to reproduce a similar idea using the original inspiration as a reference. This kind of Design oriented art makes for dramatic pieces that can be sold at a reasonable price point.

Salma's work came out so well as prints on stretched canvas that we end up using them all the time. Her pastoral scenes that invoke her native India are poetic and colorful. In this room that her work shares with the bold and organic abstractions of Jeff Riley, I can hardly even see the furniture beside the striking artwork!

Contemplating a painting by Jeff Riley is like taking a science course in the nature of form and color. He images that make reference to biology and the microscopic structure of things is always tempered with his trained eye and brush so it never feels stuffy.
